General Statement of Duties

Person County Government is recruiting for a Nutritionist II for the Health Department. The primary purpose of this position is to serve the public with respect, courtesy, dignity and compassion while providing comprehensive and hands-on nutritional services for the target population of low- to high-risk participants of all ages that need dietary counseling for the Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) as required by Federal and State WIC Program guidelines. This employee will be responsible for fulfilling the duties of the Breastfeeding Coordinator and the WIC-Designated Breastfeeding Expert (DBE) to oversee the planning and implementation of breastfeeding promotion and support activities within the local agency and community.

This is a non-exempt position working 37.5 hours weekly/1950 hours annually.
The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate’s educational background and relevant work experience.

Minimum Education and Experience
-
Required Minimum Training:
- Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration;
- or Master’s degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition;
- or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education-approved Didactic Program in Dietetics and two years nutrition experience;
- or Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Dietetics Registration with a Bachelor’s degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience;
- or a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience.
Additional Training/Experience:
- North Carolina WIC Program Crossroads Training
- Ongoing North Carolina WIC Program Trainings
- Ongoing Person County Government Trainings
- Breastfeeding Coordinator: Completion of 20 Hours of Continuing Education in Breastfeeding Every Five (5) Years
- WIC Designated Breastfeeding Expert (DBE): Completion of the WIC Breastfeeding Support Curriculum Levels 1 -4 Within One (1) Year of Assuming the Role
- WIC DBE Continuing Education Offered by the Local Agency’s Regional WIC Lactation Area Training Centers for Health (LATCH)

Special Requirements/Qualifications

Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.
Person County conducts pre-employment screening on candidates. Job offers are conditional pending the following:
