POSITION: Nutritionist II (WIC Director)

 

DUTIES:  Work in this class involves three major activities: 1) providing clinical nutrition services to clients with broad or comprehensive nutrition needs; 2) program coordination, including: planning, managing, implementing and evaluating small or limited Local Health Agency nutrition programs or services; 3) being the Local Health Agency Breastfeeding Coordinator; and 4) being the Local Health Agency Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Manager. The nutritionist may oversee daily operations of a small or limited nutrition program; develop plans for service delivery; assesses community nutrition needs and design programs to meet those needs; interpret and disseminate current scientific knowledge to professionals and clients; training; perform administrative functions; advise on program evaluation; and will supervise administrative support staff and the Nutritionist I. Work may include other related assignments as determined by management and is done under the general supervision of the Nursing Director or Health Director.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation   from an accredited college or university with major course work in nutrition, dietetics or public health nutrition and one year nutrition experience.

NC Lactation Education Training

Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program Manager Training

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of:

State and local social service and public health programs; Accepted nutritional and dietetic principles and practices; Basic principles of infant and child development; Community issues related to nutrition and child development; Principles of counseling; Community resources and services.

  1. Skill in:

Counseling clients; Using a computer and related software applications; Analyzing nutritional data;

Formulating appropriate dietary recommendations; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers.

 

Special Requirements: Valid driver’s license; must meet & maintain minimum education & experience requirement as determined by the state of North Carolina.

 

SALARY: $45,991- $56,937 annually
