Position: Substance Abuse Worker
Position No. 481-88-203
Salary Range: $30,753 – $45,398 (grade 64)

Description: This position will support people who use drugs and/or have experienced a drug overdose. Work is heavily involved in community outreach and education, building support systems. Community outreach efforts may include forming and convening local stakeholders into Substance Awareness Task Force meetings, as well as providing education to the community at large. Topics include drug use, harm reduction, recovery, and how to mainstream individuals back into the community after recovery efforts. Duties also include implementing harm reduction strategies, treatment navigation, and maintaining peer support with people who use drugs. Harm reduction strategies include syringe exchange services, and naloxone distribution. Employee also provides case management and advocates for justice-involved clients.

Work Schedule: Hours are primarily Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with one hour for lunch but may certainly flex dependent upon the needs of the program.

Minimum Training and Experience: Graduation from high school and one year of experience in a supportive information role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Also must hold certification with NC Helping Our Peers Excel (HOPE) or have the ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
Special conditions for employment: Prior to employment, the successful applicant will be asked to submit to pre-employment screenings. Applicants must possess a valid NC driver’s license.
